Chapter 4 was particularly interesting to me because it first introduces growing, aging, and the expectations society has for you. It explores what influences us as a social being and society and those who pass on social expectations. What makes you act the way you do in certain atmospheres?
Are you quiet in the library? Why?
Probably because it is considered rude in our society to be loud in a place where people are trying to concentrate. Being quiet is expected of you. Was this taught to you by your parents, or did you observe how other people were acting the first times you went to a library?
Influences
The link below will take you to a news article about using the media to influence society. I think that the media has a large part in socialization. Expectations can be put on you by the media without you even noticing. This might make you take a second look at what you are being influenced by and if you even know the truth.

Nature vs. Nurture
Another aspect of socialization is gender. What is expected of boys and girls? Are they born this way or do they learn this? If are a boy and were always dressed in pink and given dolls to play with, would you still identify yourself as a male?
The following link will take you to the YouTube video, "nature vs. nurture," (2008) for a short clip on opinions of the nature vs. nurture debate.

Socialization
Here is a website that gives the basics on socialization and why it is important for society. Without socialization there would probably not be a developed society, because no one would know how to communicate with each other.
