As far as emerging issues go, I am going to cover the one that we hear about everyday...The Economy. This was an obvious choice for me because I think it will be something our generation will always remember and hopefully will never have to live through again. I don't really get into politics that much and I still do not fully understand how exactly our crashing economy seemed to happen overnight. However, the issue has been going on since 2008 and has effected every one of us in some way or another. You never think that such things will happen to your country in 2011! In Sociology: the essentials, it really shows the flaws in our economy. How CEOs make more than 300 times the average worker, and how many corporations moved their companies to other countries for cheap labor. It is really sad and shocking that there is not much we can do about it. People can't boycott cheap items, because they can't afford to pay for expensive things that are made in America. When it comes down to it, it is all about money.
The only way to bring back production and jobs to America is to make laws against importing. Unfortunately, politicians are "paid off" in various ways to keep things like this from happening. I would never say that I am not proud of my Country, but after reading so many shocking facts in this book, I would say that I was surprised that it seems some of the corporations care more about money than keeping America strong. They don't tell you these things on television and I have never heard most of the information this book provided, but it is really sad. With the ways things have been going and they was they are still going, I don't see are economy ever being at a really strong point. I feel that it is going to take longer then everyone is anticipating to get Americans back to work. Despite what you might see or hear, it is just now, 3 years after everything crashed, that people are starting to lose money, people who thought they were going to be able to make it through. If we could all only buy things that were made in America, but nothing is made here anymore. We are far from self sufficient. There is a lot more to just losing a job that the economy is effecting, but when you don't know the truth and are working two jobs to keep all of your things, you don't have enough time to do anything about it. I am anxious to see the changing point in the economy, what it is going to take, and I hope it comes soon!
